Up periscope

My latest coloured pencil drawing. This is based on a photo reference of my own. The pond was murky as anything, and the little fella had moss growing on his back (!?!?) He popped his head up just in time for me to take a photo of him. :)

  1. Dang, the way you are able to bring water to life with colored pencils is amazing! Well done on a tough subject to draw. Our common snapping turtles sometimes are seen with mossy backs (actually algae), and are often called "mossy backs." It's easy to see from these animals how the native peoples thought a turtle created the land we live on!

    1. Those water lines were an absolute nightmare to render. In the end, I wanted to gouge my eyes out with a blunt pencil.
I can see the whole Turtle Island metaphor here. Ha! Never considered that... Makes sense. :)
