Caran D'Ache Luminance

They're here!!! I can't believe I got them before Easter! Good old Ken Bromley delivers, yet again. :)

  1. Nice review of all the colored pencils! I hadn't heard of the Caran brand before. It does sound like the Ferrari of pencils with all its good qualities!

  2. They are excellent. I am quite taken with them, but I still have a high place in my heart for the Prismacolour. I'm actually using a combo Caran D'Ache and Prismacolour on my lynx drawing. The Prisma are softer than the Caran, and after several layers of colours, the Caran can't grab anymore, but the softness of the Prisma allows me to still add fine lines and details.
Just like graphite pencils, I think it's good to have a nice array of coloured penciles with different qualities to them. I'd say Derwents are like H and 2H in hardness, whereas Caran are more like HB to 2B, and Prisma are 4B and 6B, if that makes any sense. :)
